Jake's Webbed Journal
My name is Jake and I grew up in Connecticut. I live in New York City now and I write and make videos for the internet. I like cookies, blankets and running. I’m 23.
Saturday Night

To set this up: Jeff “Rosie” Rosenberg is one of my best friends and has also been dating my sister for the past two years or so. He’s the most chilled out person I know

Proof: On Saturday we somehow found out Jeff was wearing jeans, long johns under the jeans, mesh shorts under the long johns, and under the mesh shorts… another pair of mesh shorts. While we were all cracking up about it someone said to me, “This guy is gonna marry your sister!” And I said, genuinely, “I hope so.”

This is my sister, Sarah. She’s a student at NYU studying abroad in Ghana. Sarah is an incredible person. She’s more thoughtful, generous and sincere than anyone I know. She’s doing some great things in Africa, but you don’t have to hear about them from me- Sarah is keeping her own blog while she’s there.

Hopefully her writing will inspire you like it inspires me.

I posted a while ago about a road trip I was going on but I don’t think I ever talked about it again. Well, if you’re wondering, It was awesome. It’s possible that it’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done.
Even when I was scared of getting beat up by townies in a dive bar in Virginia. Even when we had to tear apart our motel room in order to hide our bags from crackheads in Nashville, or when I was sucking fumes from a Red Bull at 2AM driving through New Mexico. When I woke up hung over, freezing cold, on the rock hard ground by the Grand Canyon. When I lost 400 dollars in Vegas. Or when I wanted to fight Rosie for refusing to wait in the car while we lied about how many people were staying in our hotel room in San Diego.
Because those townies warmed up to us, and we all danced together. And because we survived our night at Knight’s Inn and I now know I can sleep anywhere. Because I’ve never seen stars the way I saw them outside Santa Fe that night. And because I got to get drunk and smoke a joint with two amazing strangers in Arizona. Because, I won (some) of that money back. And because, well, I love Rosie no matter what.
We had a good trip. And the original reason for this post, before all this sentimental shit, was that I finally posted some pictures on flickr. If you’re interested- they’re here.

Homecoming

Four years ago I failed out of college in Pennsylvania. I moved home and enrolled, part time, at Southern Connecticut State University. I spent my year at home in New Haven drinking a lot, sleeping a lot and missing a lot of class. I dropped out before second semester began.

A lot has happened since then, but this is the important part. Four years after I enrolled, three and a half years after I wasn’t welcome back, Southern Connecticut State University is paying me to come entertain their student body.

Amir and I will be hosting as well as performing at the CollegeHumor Live Show on Wednesday September 16th at Southern. College wasn’t for me, but it’s nice that Southern and I have found an arrangement that works out for both of us. And it’s going to be good to go home.

If you come it would make this show awesome, here’s where you can get tickets.

BFF

So I am going to host a show on MySpace called BFF. You can check out some past episodes (not with me in them) here. I think the format is going to change a little but you can get the idea. I have no idea when it will air, but I DO know that it begins filming next week. I also know that they are looking for contestants. Which brings me to the point of this post.

If you and your best friend are between 18 and 24 and live in New York city you can audition to be on the show with me! Guys and girls are both welcome. And being new to this hosting thing, it’d be pretty cool if I knew some of the contestants.

If you’re interested in being on the show, just email casting4crossroads at gmail dot com and get the details.

The Drive

I’m leaving today for my first cross country road trip with two of my best friends Jeff and Steve. We’re starting in New York City and ending in San Diego. I’m not very well traveled and I’ve been really craving an adventure for a while. Needless to say, I’m pumped. We saved money, we rented a car, and we intentionally have no plan.

For the most part, I want to ignore technology, and specifically, get away from the internet for a while. But I still wanted to start a tumblr where I can post pictures, video and some text about the drive. It’s at www.jakeandjeffandsteve.tumblr.com. It’s mostly for my mom, but you can check it out as well.

See you in 10 days!

4th of July

Was wonderful. My little brother cooked pancakes, I walked through a wide open field, I saw a waterfall. I drove fast on the highway. I bought a three dollar shirt with a huge Eagle on it. I ate a raw clam, drank a cold beer. I got into a water fight with two three year olds. I won.

I swam out into the ocean and did a somersault off a raft. I watched my friends get wasted. I foraged through the woods to find firewood and stood by it on the beach while it burned. I saw fireworks exploding as far down the Connecticut coast as I could see.

I held an oversized sparkler. I sipped vodka from a lawn chair while Michael Jackson songs played from a nearby porch. And while I sat on that noisy beach wishing the night didn’t have to end my best friend showed up with pillows and blankets and it didn’t.

I woke up in the sand the next morning when the sun rose.

Oh, and I didn’t use a computer once.

Furnishing

I recently moved into a new apartment. I’m living in Brooklyn now with my friends Jeff and Julia. We moved out here about three weeks ago. Jeff and I are both coming from studio apartments and Julia is coming from a dorm, so we’re pretty short in the furniture department. Being in Brooklyn means we can afford more space, and right now the only thing occupying our kitchen/dining room/living room is a couch, a trunk and a stool.

I have been to tons of thrift stores around the city looking for chairs, tables, bookcases, coffee tables and TV stands with no luck. So this weekend when we went home for Father’s Day Jeff and I resolved to spend time finding furniture for our apartment. The vintage stores in Connecticut, we were sure, would prove to have a wider slection and hopefully be cheaper.

A lot of things happened in between then and now but I guess my point is that Jeff and I aren’t ready to be responsible for shit like this, as we are returning with a Ping Pong table, a basketball and a Vortex.

I’m equal parts proud and embarrassed to say that these things were not my first immature purchase of the week.
